The Ministry of Business Trade and Cooperatives has concluded a two-day training programme in Edo South tagged” Understanding Your Law and Cooperatives in the 21st Century “the importance of using modern and pragmatic methods of organizing the affairs of Cooperatives Societies was emphasized.
This emphasis was givien by the Commissioner for Business Trade and Cooperatives Hon. Afishetu Braimoh while declaring open a two-day training programme for members of various Cooperative Societies in Edo state.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Efe Iserhienrhien, commended the Cooperators for being proactive over the years in running the affairs of their various Cooperatives.
She advised them to be open to progressive ideas aimed at enhancing their activities and effective management of the Cooperatives that will be presented during the training adding that the State Government through the Ministry will continue to partner with them whenever the need arises.
The Commissioner harped on the need for managers of the various Cooperatives to imbibe the culture of prudent and efficient management of finances in order not to betray the confidence reposed in them by their members.
The President Edo Cooperative Federation Mr. Filani Ojo expressed gratitude to the Ministry for organizing the training, advised leaders of Cooperatives and other members to do everything in their power to ensure that their various Cooperatives continue to be vibrant and avail themselves of various initiatives by Edo State Government through the Ministry of Business Trade and Cooperatives aimed at helping them to thrive.
The Director of Cooperatives Mrs Enoma Efeomo said the training was aimed at helping the Cooperative Societies to be abreast of the laws that regulate the running of the Cooperative Societies, getting access to finance, digital marketing, proper accounting and record keeping ensuring all round development to Edo State through Cooperatives.
The training will be replicated in Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts of the State with facilitators from within and outside of Ministry of Business Trade and Cooperatives.
Lectures delivered included Transforming Cooperative Societies in the 21st Century, Effective Accounting and Bookkeeping for Cooperatives in the 21st Century, Digital Marketing and Cooperatives Dimensions amongst others.
The training took place in John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City.
